MMGM Storyhour: “Lump of Coal” Craft at Bethel Library
MMGM Storyhour at the Bethel Library
When: December 18 at 3 PM
Where: Bethel Library, 6 Broad St, Bethel, ME 04217
Looking for a family-friendly holiday activity in Bethel, Maine? Join the Maine Mineral & Gem Museum (MMGM) for a special MMGM Storyhour at the Bethel Library on December 18 at 3:00 PM.
This month’s story features Lemony Snicket and a kid-friendly dive into the fascinating—but sometimes grim—history of 18th-century coal mining. Kids will learn why education was a privilege not available to young miners of the past… and why we’re lucky to be in school today!
After the story, MMGM Education Coordinator Deb Johnson will have children get creative by making their own personalized “lump of coal” craft to take home—perfect for holiday fun.
What to Expect
- Read-aloud story by Lemony Snicket
- Hands-on educational activity about coal mining history
- Make-and-take craft: create your own “lump of coal”
- Free, kid-friendly, and great for families
Join us for a cozy afternoon of reading, learning, and holiday-themed creativity.
