Join the Maine Mineral & Gem Museum & The Gem Theater for a night under the stars.
Our favorite street astronomer, Tom Hoffelder, and Dr. Henning Haack will speak at the Gem before a special vintage film screening.
“A Trip to the Moon” (France, 1902) was the screen’s first science fiction story. It was a 14-minute masterpiece, nearly one reel in length (about 825 feet), created by imaginative French director and master magician Georges Melies (1861-1938).
The total lunar eclipse, which occurs when the Earth comes between the Sun and the Moon, will come to totality at 12:12 am. Dress warm and bring your best stick for a marshmallow roast.
