Bring MMGM To Your School
Educational needs are different for every school, and that’s why MMGM created programming that travels to you, at no cost.
How it works:
- Our educators make school visits a blast, traveling with museum specimens from minerals to meteorites, and educational programming for K-12 classrooms.
- Possible lesson can include topics such as the rock cycle, tectonic plate movement, Maine’s state fossil, The Big Bang, asteroids, meteorites, and much, much more!
- All lessons incorporate hands-on STEaM activities, customized to suit every learners age
- Scheduling and lesson topics are very flexible to work our your specific needs

Space Rocks Meteorite Education Kit
The Space Rocks Meteorite Education Kit is a new educational tool designed to spark fascination and fun in your classroom! Created to align with NGSS middle school standards and designed to incorporate the Maine Mineral & Gem Museum’s world class Space Rocks exhibit, these two out-of-this-world kits will travel from school to school (upon request) and will give students the opportunity to learn about – and hold – real meteorites! Each kit contains materials and activities that will ignite a galaxy of ideas and introduce students to the possibility of careers in planetary science and related fields.
The Space Rocks Meteorite Education Kit will be available beginning in the Fall of 2025. To apply to have a kit sent to your school, please contact: Deb Johnson, MMGM Education Outreach Coordinator.
