Read Aloud: Old Rock is Not Boring by Deb Pilutti. Hear about the exciting life of a rock who has seen some amazing Earth events. Examine some cool “old rocks” and travel back to 1975 to make your very own pet rock!
July 29 | Trace Fossils, 3 p.m.
Read Aloud: How to Catch a Dinosaur by Adam Wallace. Learn about Connecticut’s famous trace fossils and make some tracks of your own.
August 5 | Crystal Structure, 3 p.m.
Read Aloud: Julie the Rockhound by Gail Karwoski. Examine quartz samples in a variety of colors including Herkimer New York’s famous “diamonds”. Using origami, learn to fold a cool 6 sided paper crystal.
August 12 | The Perseids, 3 p.m.
Read Aloud: Shooting Stars by Franklyn Branley. When, where, and why can we predict shooting stars but why don’t we find tons of meteorites during these cosmic showers? Hold a real meteorite that made it to Earth.
August 19 | The Earth as a Magnet, 3 p.m.
Read Aloud: Northern Lights by Martha Rustad. The shooting stars are not the only dazzling event in the sky. Discover how our Earth acts like one big magnet and learn what causes the Northern Lights. Take home a colorful art project with your own night sky design.
