Join the Maine Mineral & Gem Museum for a special night under the stars. We’re celebrating International Observe the Moon Night, a global event featuring our closest celestial neighbor.
This annual NASA-sponsored program is a worldwide event. It encourages observation, appreciation, and understanding of our Moon and its connection to space science, exploration, and human culture. This annual event connects scientists, educators, and lunar enthusiasts around the globe.
What to Expect:
- Telescope Viewing: Amateur astronomers Tom and Lynn Hoffelder will guide you through detailed views of the Moon’s craters, mountains, and otherworldly landscapes.
- Touch Real Moon Rocks: MMGM staff will share meteorites, including specimens from both of the Moon’s broad regions.
- Family-Friendly Learning: Perfect for curious kids, budding scientists, and anyone fascinated by the night sky.
Cloudy Night Alternate Plan
If the skies are overcast, the event will move indoors to MMGM. Tom Hoffelder will give a fascinating presentation on our Solar System. Attendees will still be able to hold lunar meteorites and explore the wonders of space.
