Date: Thursday, January 15, 2026
Time: 3:00 PM
Location: Bethel Library
Address: 6 Broad Street, Bethel, ME
Audience: Children & families
Cost: Free
Event Description:
Join the Maine Mineral & Gem Museum (MMGM) for a special Storyhour at the Bethel Library, featuring the beloved children’s book “Julie the Rock Hound” by Gail Langer Karwoski.
This engaging story follows a young rock hound as she discovers dazzling crystals and minerals — many like the ones that can be found right here in Maine’s own backyard. After the reading, MMGM educators will share real examples of Maine crystals, helping young scientists learn how rocks form and how to spot mineral treasures in nature.
To wrap up the program, kids will create their own origami crystal to take home — a hands-on activity that blends science, creativity, and fun.
This free program is perfect for curious kids, budding geologists, and families looking for an educational afternoon activity in Bethel.
Stop by the Bethel Library on January 15 for a storyhour that turns reading time into a rock-solid science adventure!
