Pegmatite 101 Workshop
Join us on Saturday, June 13 at the Maine Mineral & Gem Museum for an in-depth introduction to one of geology’s most fascinating rock formations: pegmatites.
This special program features three one-hour lectures in the Discovery Gallery, exploring the mineralogy, paragenesis, and petrology of pegmatites, and what makes them so unique. Known for producing some of the world’s most remarkable gem minerals, including tourmaline, pegmatites are a key area of study for both scientists and collectors.
Following the lectures, participants will head into the field for a guided visit to the Emmons Pegmatite, offering a rare opportunity to connect classroom knowledge with real-world geology.
This program is led by the expert team behind the William “Skip” Simmons Research Laboratory at MMGM, a globally recognized group advancing research in mineralogy, petrology, pegmatology, and cosmochemistry.
A boxed lunch will be provided, with meal selections collected from registered participants in advance. Space is limited to 24 participants, so be sure to register early! Register Here!
