MMGM Fossil Special at Dino Days in Portland!
Calling all DINO fans and amateur paleontologists! MMGM Staff will be bringing the fossils and geology knowledge to Dino Mornings Weekend at the Children’s Museum + Theatre of Maine in Portland! We’ll be there Friday AND Saturday!
On Friday, MMGM Education Outreach Coordinator, Deb Johnson is kicking off off Dino Mornings Weekend with a special program on fossils!

Time: 11 AM to Noon
Capacity: 30 participants. Included with admission. Registration required via The Children’s Museum + Theatre of Maine.
Note: This is not a drop-off program and adult participation is required.
What to Expect:
Deb Johnson will guide kids and families through a lively fossil adventure exploring:
- Maine’s Ice Age and why dinosaurs aren’t found here
- The story of Maine’s official State Fossil
- Real fossil specimens to see and touch
- A read-aloud featuring trailblazing paleontologist Mary Anning
- Fossil-making crafts, puzzles, and coloring activities
This one-hour program brings earth history to life and is perfect for sparking curiosity in scientists of all ages.
About Deb Johnson
Deb Johnson is the Education Outreach Coordinator at the Maine Mineral & Gem Museum. A veteran educator with over 30 years of experience teaching gifted students, she creates hands-on programs that bring Maine’s fossils, geology, and stories of women in science to life for learners of all ages. Deb especially enjoys sparking curiosity in kids and helping them discover the excitement of science through interactive lessons.
