Our Sun is one star among a few hundred billion in the Milky Way Galaxy. That’s the name of our galaxy because long before we knew that galaxies existed, the band of light that we see in dark summer evening skies was called some version of the Milky Way for thousands of years. The size, shape and structure of the Milky Way will be discussed, as well as the different types of stars that populate it. Descriptions of the two types of star clusters and four types of nebulae that enrich our telescopic viewing of Milky Way objects will be provided.
