MMGM Intern Showcase

Join us for an afternoon of presentations highlighting the work of the Maine Mineral & Gem Museum’s 2026 summer interns. Throughout the summer, our interns have contributed to research, education, collections management, and exhibit development. This showcase offers a behind-the-scenes look at their projects and the impact they’ve made during their time at the museum.

Each intern will give a 15-minute presentation followed by a brief Q&A session.

Angelina – Curation Intern
Angelina will discuss the development of a new volcano-themed exhibit case, including the process of selecting specimens and creating the display. She will also share her work cataloging rock and thin section collections and explain the importance of collections management in supporting the museum’s mission.

Eli – Education Intern
Eli will highlight the museum’s educational outreach across Maine, including hands-on Earth and space science programs at public libraries, the creation of new scavenger hunts for elementary and middle school visitors, and the development of a five-lesson Earth science curriculum covering Earth’s composition, rock formation, glaciers, and the differences between quarries and mines in Maine. He’ll also reflect on how the internship has influenced his growth as an educator and expanded the museum’s reach into communities across the state.

Kaleb – Geology Intern
Kaleb will present his research on the chemistry of muscovite from the Emmons Pegmatite in Greenwood, Maine. His work includes collecting field samples, preparing and analyzing specimens, and interpreting the results to better understand the formation of this world-renowned pegmatite. He will also discuss his work cataloging a donated mineral collection and, time permitting, plans for a new international mineral display in the Discovery Gallery.

This showcase is a unique opportunity to hear directly from the next generation of Earth scientists and museum professionals.
