[CANCELLED] Perseid Meteor Shower
Weather forecasts predict mostly cloudy skies in our area tonight, so the event for the Perseid meteor shower has been cancelled. If the sky in your local area ends up clear tonight, we recommend finding a spot not too close to town and city lights with a good open view of the sky for the best experience.

Experience one of the year’s most anticipated celestial events under some of western Maine’s darkest skies.
The Perseid meteor shower returns this August, and this year brings especially favorable viewing conditions. With a new Moon keeping the sky free of moonlight, the peak of the shower promises an excellent opportunity to watch bright meteors streak across the night sky.
Join the Maine Mineral & Gem Museum at the Hoffelder Observatory for an evening of meteor watching as we take in one of the Northern Hemisphere’s most spectacular annual astronomical events.
For the most comfortable experience, we recommend bringing a lounge chair, reclining camp chair, or blanket so you can relax while looking overhead. Even in August, temperatures can cool significantly after sunset, so be sure to dress warmly.
